Hair Loss Surgery
Nothing worries men more than losing their hair. Its officially up there as the number one ” dreaded event” of a mans life. Sadly, there is little you can do to prevent all this happening in the first place, other then to choose your parents very wisely ! Yes, most hair loss is genetic. If you have a family of men all with shiny locks well into their seventies, then there is every chance that you will keep yours. If on the other hand you have a father who is bad and older brothers who are the same…well…the chances are not promising.
Of course, it is no guarantee that you will follow the family pattern, but it is the best guess that you have.

STAGE 1 - Male Pattern Baldness
The first tell tale signs of the onset of Male Pattern Baldness is when frontal recessions begin to appear in the hairline.
STAGE 2 - Male Pattern Baldness
Over time these recessions become larger and much more noticeable, and the hairline moves further back.
STAGE 3 - Male Pattern Baldness
At the same time as the recessions taking place, a thinning area may also appear on the crown and will gradually increase in size.
STAGE 4 - Male Pattern Baldness
The final stage of Male Pattern Baldness is when the hair is lost completely from the crown and frontal region, and leaving the familiar horse shoe shape.
There are other causes of hair loss of course, which should be investigated. For example, it is not uncommon to lose hair after illness or stress. Some forms of hair loss such as Alopecia Areata seem to have a direct link with stress.
So what can we do ?
The thought of a hair transplant has some men running for the hills. The mere thought of the ” dolls head” effect sounds like a nightmare. True, in the early days of the procedure the tell tale hairline did look like your sisters doll and was an instant giveaway. How things have changed over the past decade. It is now possible to get a virtually undetectable hairline thanks to the development of micro grafting, where single hairs can be transplanted into the hairline to give a totally naturally looking result.
So if the thought of a hair transplant put you off before, read on and find out how micro grafting could be the solution you have been looking for.
Before the Procedure
Firstly, it all starts with a consultation with our Specialist in Micro hair grafting. Perhaps you do have some hair that just needs thickening. Perhaps you have a receded hair line that’s making you look older than your years. Or perhaps you are at the point of no return , with what’s termed ” full male patterned Baldness”.
The success of the Micro grafting technique depends somewhat on the quality of your donor hair. Your donor hair is the hair at the back and sides of the head. It is this hair that is used in the transplant process. The quantity and quality of this hair needs to be carefully evaluated as this is what is going to be growing on the top.
At the consultation a plan will be put together after discussion with you about the result that you would like to achieve and the hair that is available to graft.
Before pictures will be taken to compare them with the after ones some months later. Many Patients are quite shocked to see themselves with hair again. A new hairline can literally take years off you.
The Procedure
Your micro grafting procedure is usually performed under local anesthetic with sedation. This means that you are not totally asleep but feeling very relaxed throughout.
Local anesthetic is used in the area where the grafts are taken from and in the area where they are going to be transplanted. You will see that your procedure is really a team effort. the Surgeon is supported by a team of specially trained Nurses, who assist the Surgeon in the preparation of the micro grafts prior to them being transplanted into the bald area.
The grafts are minute, containing 3 to 6 hairs only. They are placed carefully by the Surgeon to ensure that they grow in the same direction as your existing hair.
The procedure itself can take two to four hours depending on the number of grafts to be done in one session.
After the procedure you will rest for a short while in the hospital, before you can return home.
After the Procedure
You may have a little swelling in the donor site and to the forehead , especially if the hairline has been treated. this tends to be fairly mild in most cases. Arrange a few days off work to rest.
You will notice that the hairs in the grafts tend to fall out after about two weeks. Don’t panic !. This does not mean that the transplant has failed. You will see new hair appear after about three months and from there it will get longer and longer each month. Usually, a couple of sessions are required to complete the look. However , you can have even more hair added, if you have the donor capacity.
Your new hair will grow the same color as it did before. You can wash it as much as you like, have it cut into any style, perm it, bleach it tint it, whatever you want…now the choice is yours.
