Tummy Tuck

As more and more men pay attention to their weight, many are left with an “overhang” of loose skin on the tummy afterwards. This is a classic tummy tuck case. If you have lost lots of weight and find yourself with another problem on your stomach, you might want to see the Plastic Surgeon and see what can be done.

Before the procedure

A consultation is essential with the Plastic Surgeon first. This will give you the opportunity to ask those important questions and get all of the facts. This consultation is free of charge so you have nothing to lose.

Consultations usually take about half an hour to one hour.

During the consultation the Surgeon will explain how the operation is done. He will tell you all about the pros and cons of this operation. At some point he will examine you and then decide the best course of action for you.

The procedure

This operation is don under a general anesthetic so you will be asleep throughout. The operation itself takes about two hours.

During this operation the Surgeon makes an incision along the pubic line. He removes the redundant skin and any excess fat. At the same time he will repair any weakened stomach muscles.

The area is then sutured and you will be taken back to your private room.

After the procedure

Depending on the amount of  surgery you need, you will remain in hospital for one or two nights. Expect to feel sore afterwards and you will have some bruising and swelling in the abdominal area. This is perfectly normal. Of course, you will be given post operative medication to minimise any discomfort and help with the swelling.

Plan for two weeks off work and no gym work or other strenuous exercise for six weeks afterwards. You have to be sensible.

The swelling will begin to subside and after two weeks it will be looking much better, although it can take up to six weeks for most of it to go. You may find that small pockets of swelling may remain for some time afterwards.

Your Surgeon will want to see you for series of check ups after the operation to make sure that everything is settling down.

When things have settled down you should be staring in the mirror at a much flatter stomach with no overhang ! and in contour with the rest of your shape.

Remember to stick to some healthy eating and drinking habits afterwards though.
