Cheek and Chin implants

Do you see hollow cheeks when you look in the mirror?, or perhaps in profile you see a chin set usually back and not in line with the rest of your facial features. In both of these cases, facial implants can help provide volume in terms of the cheeks and a better profile in terms of the chin.

Before the procedure

Cheek and chin implants are performed by Plastic Surgeons and Maxillo facial Surgeons. It is vital that you have a consultation with one of these professionals before embarking on a procedure. At the consultation the Surgeon is going to want to know what exactly you don’t like about your profile or cheeks. He will examine these areas and give you full details about the procedure, including the pros and cons of both.

If he feels you are suitable then the decision becomes yours and you should have all of the right information on which to base your decision.

The procedure

Both cheek and chin implants are carried out under general anesthetic, so you will feel nothing during the procedure.

Cheek implants are inserted through the mouth with an incision in the cheek area. So there are no visible scars on the face. Chin implants are usually placed through an incision between the lip and gum on the front of the lower jaw. They can be inserted through and external incision just underneath the chin. Your Surgeon will discuss the most appropriate route for your procedure. Both operations take about one hour to perform. Following initial recovery you will then be taken back to your private room to recuperate.

After the procedure

Expect some bruising and swelling in the operated area just afterwards. In the case of cheek implants your mouth will feel sore at first and similarly with chin implants the inside of the bottom lip will also feel sore. This will settle down over the course of the following two weeks. Arrange ten to fourteen days off work.
