Eye Bag Removal
Eye bags are one tell tale sign of ageing, eye bags and they are ageing because they make you look so tired. In fact most Patients say they are fed up of people telling them that they look tired when they are not. Most men say that they do look worse in the mornings though. Also, it is common as we get older to have hooding of the upper eyes. In severe cases this can impact on your vision as the hooding comes down across the corner of the eye.
If you are very unlucky, you may need both the lower and upper eyes correcting, thank fully its a very common procedure with superb results.
Before the eye bag removal procedure
A consultation with the Plastic Surgeon will be arranged to examine your eyes and decide what exactly needs to be done. The consultation is free of charge and without obligation, of course.
The consultation will last about half an hour to one hour. It will your chance to ask all of those important questions directly to the Surgeon, so in the end you can decide if blepharoplasty is the right choice for you.
The eye bag removal procedure
If you require just the upper eyes correcting then this can be done under local anesthetic. If the lower eye bags and upper hooding of the eyes require correction, then this is usually done under local anesthetic with sedation or a full general anesthetic. Your Surgeon and Anesthetist will discuss this with you at consultation.
For the upper eyes, the Surgeon makes an incision in the natural crease line. He then removes the excess skin causing the hooding , suturing the incision with very fine sutures afterwards.
To correct the bagginess underneath the eyes, the Surgeon makes an incision in the crease line directly under the lower eyelid, removing the excess skin and fatty tissue. Once again, this area is sutured with very fine sutures.
After the procedure, you will taken back to your private room to recover.
After the procedure
You can expect some swelling and bruising to the eye area after this procedure. this is perfectly normal and usually subsides with about ten to fourteen days. Your eyes may feel sore for the first few days.
Plan to take about ten days off work, if only to allow enough time for the swelling to subside.
The sutures will be removed around seven to ten days later depending on what your Surgeon requires.
When everything has settled, you will notice how much ” fresher” your eyes look, and gone will be the taunts of how tired you are looking all of the time. This is a very pleasing procedure to roll back a few years in a tell tale area for ageing.
