Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia)
Gynaecomasia is not a term everyone may have heard of, but if you mention the dreaded words ” man boobs” , then there are thousands of men who know exactly what you are talking about. From the feedback we receive from our Patients we know that this is one problem which affects men’s confidence more than anything else, well, perhaps the size of the penis is up there too, but ” man boobs ” rank right up there with the best of them. Don’t worry , you are not on your own. It is estimated that up to 30% of men have this problem. If you are still with us in your seventies, then the chances are you will have developed” man boobs”
Thankfully, there is something that you can do about it. Yes, it means a cosmetic surgery operation, but at the end you will be rid of those ” man boobs” and back to the beach…without the T shirt.
Before the procedure
The first step is the consultation with the Plastic Surgeon. It all starts here. The consultation is free and without obligation, of course. At the consultation the Surgeon will examine the area to be treated and advise you of the best method of dealing with your ” man boobs”. He will explain everything in details, the pros and the cons of the operation. This will all take about half an hour to an hour. At the end of the consultation you should have all of the information you need, to come to a decision about your surgery and if its the right thing for you.
The procedure
This procedure is normally done under general anaesthetic. You will be asleep throughout the whole thing and feel nothing.
The Surgeon makes an incision just underneath the nipple and using a special instrument called a cannula, removes the excess fat in the chest area. This excess fat is removed through a small incision though which the cannula is inserted.
The procedure will take about one to two hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed. Afterwards you will recover in your private room and possibly stay overnight and be discharged the next day.
After the procedure
You can expect some swelling and bruising to the chest area after the operation. This is perfectly normal. You will also feel sore. Plan to take around ten days off work and don’t use the gym for six weeks until everything has settled down.
After two weeks or so you should find that the swelling is well, on its way to settling down. Your Plastic Surgeon will then see you for a series of check ups after the operation to ensure that all is well.
It wont be long before you can look in the mirror with some pride and see , finally, that those dreaded ” man boobs” are no more.
