Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

Reshaping of the nose, or Rhinoplasty can transform the look of someone’s face. An ugly nose on an otherwise beautiful face is one of the most pleasing corrections that a Plastic Surgeon can make.

Before the Rhinoplasty procedure

A consultation with the Plastic Surgeon is the first step on the road to having a rhinoplasty. Consultations are free so you have nothing to lose by going along and seeing what our Surgeons can do with your nose.

At the consultation, the Surgeon will examine your nose, he will ask you if you have any breathing problems and what you don’t like about the shape of your nose. Maybe its the tip of your nose that you fell is too big. Perhaps you have a bump on the bridge you would like removed….or both.

The consultation will take about half and hour to one hour. You should then have all of the information that you need to come to a decision about a Rhinoplasty for you.

The Rhinoplasty procedure.

This operation is almost always done under general anesthetic. So you will be asleep and feel nothing. Sometimes, if just the very tip of the nose needs correcting, a local anesthetic with sedation can be used.

If the tip of your nose is a concern, then the Surgeon may remove some cartilage from this area to reduce the overall volume. If you feel your nose if not straight, then the surgeon may perform a septo-rhinoplasty to correct the deviation on the bridge.

The skin on the nose is unaffected by this operation and in most cases all the surgery is done from inside the nose, so there are no visible scars.

After the procedure, you will be taken back o your private room to recover

After the Rhinoplasty procedure

Expect some swelling and bruising to your nose after the operation. This is perfectly normal and it will take around two weeks for most of this to settle down. You may have a black eye or two , again this is normal. It’s a good idea to plan ten to fourteen days off work, especially if you don’t want anyone to know that you have had some surgery.

Although it takes some time for everything to completely settle down, you will see the results of the procedure almost straight away, especially if you had a bulbous tip or a marked deviation of the bridge.

The Surgeon will want to see you for check ups for sometime afterwards. It can take some months for everything to completely settle down.

Avoid sporting activity for six weeks afterwards.
